Laura
Hoffer - Garden Glass
I
earned a BFA at Cleveland Institute of Art in 1976 in sculpture
and ceramics. I came to Oregon the same year, and for several
years in the 1980's I had drawings and paintings in Portland
galleries, which came out of drawing classes and circles which
I ran for 10 years. Then I had children.
During the childrearing years I gardened, a continuation of
my childhood passion. As I learned the issues of this climate,
I began to help garden for others. Designing gardens was a natural
next step. I have been a professional designer and gardener
for 20 years.
In Direct response to the look of the garden border in the fall
and winter, I began designing glass panels to take the place
of plants and/or enhance plantings. The larger panels are made
to hang from arbors or gazebos or from shepherd's hooks in the
beds. The thinner pieces can be hung in tress also. Most pieces
are two-sided and can be viewed from either side.
I am so interested and excited by the play of light in the garden
and the glass gives another palette. The colors change depending
on the direction and strength of the light, and of course, they
are weatherproof, having been tested in winters from Portland,
Oregon to Portland, Maine.
There is absolutely no reason not to hang them in your window
or in the branches of your larger house plants indoors. Enjoy!
