George retired
on January 1, 1999 and promptly moved with his wife Barbara and
their Golden Retrievers from Los Angeles to Florence. In November,
2004, they moved to Gig Harbor, WA.
He started
out at Princeton studying architecture, but soon realized that
was not his field. He then enrolled at the Rhode Island School
of Design with thoughts of pursuing a career as an illustrator
or designer. Instead, after graduating with a degree in Fine Arts,
he ended up on the marketing management side of the advertising
agency business and for the next forty years did not paint a single
picture.
In 1990 he
began to paint again, self-teaching himself the watercolor medium.
Many of his early paintings were of buildings and particularly
porches, and for George nothing is as quietly pleasant as the
play of light on the side of a building. Since moving to Florence,
the local scenery has inspired him to paint more scenic subjects
and landscapes.
George is
a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon and has had one man
shows and gallery representation in Southern California, Montana
and up and down the Oregon coast.
